Adult Beginner Guitar

Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm; begins Apr 17 2019

Start the summer off right, take the time to learn guitar and be the one playing at the campfire this year. A six week introduction workshop will give an excellent introduction to the instrument to prevent injury, avoid bad habits, have more fun and play better in the long run by getting the very best first lessons in this group class that is both supportive and substantive to get you playing with ease.  A second 6 week workshop will follow for those who want to continue learning while reinforcing what they have learned.  Both workshops will be lead by James O'Halloran, an experienced teacher and professional musician. 
Class size limited to 6
Cost: $100 for 6 weeks. Discount for both workshops at $175

Adult Spring Ukulele Jam

Wednesdays 7-8pm; April 17th start.

Wednesday evenings from 7-8 come and jam with Hugh Neilson. Easy, fun and social, this group is for those who want to continue leaning more about the ukulele and enjoy playing with others. If you have a half a dozen chords,  you are ready for this. Hugh will introduce new chords, strum patterns and concepts weekly. Questions welcome!  Bring alone song suggestions and a ukulele.  Don't have a ukulele, check one out from the Mississippi Mills Public Library for thee weeks at a time.  Tuners, chord chart and music stands are available in the studio.

Advanced guitar class

Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 Begins September 12th.

Continuing Flamenco: An eight week course to review the basics and continue learning the right and left hand techniques of flamenco guitarists with traditional Palmas patterns. Will cover the terms that define the structure and form of a piece such as entradas, cierres, llamandas, escobillias, compass, falsettas and more.  James O'Halloran will be leading the returning and beginning students in the fascinating workshop.

Dust off the Strings

Back by popular request. Join a supportive group of lapsed pickers and strummers and get your groove back on with an experienced, professional and patient teacher. This eight week course will be a fun straight forward review of the fundamentals of technique, theory and tunes. The group is small to ensure that all students get a bit of individual attention when needed.

Haven’t you always wanted to play the

Harmonica?

Musicworks is happy to offer a four part series of beginner harmonica classes.

The class will take place at Musicworks on Wednesdays, October 4,11,18 and 25th.

From 7-8 pm.  The class costs $100 for all four lessons.

This class will begin with the basics of a 10 hole diatonic harmonica then move on to cover other techniques and student interests.

Participants of all ages are welcome however this class will be geared to an adult level of instruction.

Marc Rochon has been playing locally for 40 years or so. He is currently playing in 3 bands including the The Night Crawlers. Marc developed his own style deeply rooted in the blues.

He also plays guitar and banjo in the acoustic old time ragtime blues style.  Now he will be sharing his love of the harp with a beginner workshop this October.

Ric  Denis is an honours graduate in jazz/classical musical education at Mohawk College and has developed a curriculum that includes…

This 4 week Bootcamp will help you learn the basic skills you'll need to make music with your ukulele. This “quick and dirty” method does NOT require you to read music or to learn music theory. You will learn how to tune your ukulele, create chords, strum simple patterns, and most importantly, how to have fun rocking out to the simplest Beatles songs in a group of amazing ukulele people, like you.

So you have gone as far as you can with the internet, time to take it to the next level. Professional musician and teacher George Turcotte will take you on a four week musical journey to introduce to you chord building, advanced strumming patterns, finger picking and incorporating melodies into your strumming. 

YOUTH ROCK BAND - JULY and AUGUST

Summer's a great time for teens to rock at MMMMusicworks in our Rock Band Summer studio program. Spend eight weeks learning songs from notation, tablature, and chord charts; ear training and songwriting skills; how to improvise, play with others in a band, and play songs right away. Participants must already have some baseline of skill on their instrument.

Positions available include guitar, electric guitar, drums, vocals, bass and more. Music may cover the styles of rock, blues, country, and bluegrass, metal and reggae. Preforming musician and experienced private music instructor Trevor Lubin A multi-instrumentalist who plays and teaches guitar, mandolin and banjo will be leading the group. Trevor is also a regularly gigging musician in the Ottawa scene as a member of The Ramblin' Valley Band and brings that wealth of live experience to his students. 

KIDS GLEE CLUB - JULY and AUGUST

July 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, 2017 (11:15am - 12pm) / August 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th (11:15am - 12pm)

A fun filled singing program to introduce beginning vocal training while enjoying working together on popular music.

$100.00 per person.

KIDS UKE CLUB - JULY and AUG

Ukuleles are a wonderful way to introduce children to making music; a perfect introduction to stringed instruments that fit smaller hands. Playing in a group increases the fun and learning. Learning how to play; pop songs, fun Beatles tunes, classic sing-a-long songs as well as some campfire favorites; will make this the most ukadelic summer ever.  All levels welcome to this 8 week drop in program.

Missed classes can be used as credit toward lessons in the fall.

$80.00 per person for eight weeks or $15.00 per person one day drop in.

GLEE CLUB - JULY and AUG

July 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th, 2017 (10:30am -12pm) / August 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 2017 (10:30am -12pm)

Join us this summer as we dive into the wonderful world of musical theatre. From Matilda to Oliver Twist and more, we will be working on blocking and performing various pieces of musical theatre. For an hour and a half each week, The group will begin with fun warm-ups that will teach youth a safe way to get the vocal chords ready for singing. We will learn simple harmonies and work on a few numbers for an end of summer performance. Emma Hans is currently working on a Bachelor of Music at Dalhousie University and has been teaching and performing in the area for many years.

SUMMER CONCERT BAND - JULY and AUGUST

VIDEO PRODUCTION WORKSHOP

May 20th, 2017 (10am - 5pm)

In this course you will get hands on experience setting up a video camera, microphone, lighting, green screen and editing software.  You will learn industry "best practices" to make your production as professional as possible.  The class project will include setting up the equipment, shooting scenes and then editing it together with music and sound effects. 

Course instructor Rick Lazzara has been working in film and video for over 30 years and delivering courses in high definition video production in the Ottawa area for the past five years.

Participants are required to bring a windows 7, 8 or 10; 64 bit laptop, camera optional.

$80.0 per person

ACOUSTIC GUITAR

Jeff Hullin of Devils’ Due Cigar Box Guitars will be here to guide you through the assembly of your kit.  Jeff built his first cigar box guitars for himself to enjoy. These instruments garnered so much attention that he decided to pursue cigar box guitar making as a full-time venture. 

Participants are responsible for the final finish of the CBG neck at home with the finish of their choice.

All materials are included .  You will have the option to purchase a pick up for a small fee. 

As a bonus once guitars are ready for action, stick around as George will be presenting tips and tricks on the finer points of playing slide guitar

Join us Saturday March 12th from 12 - 2 for a fun, interactive information session on the subject of looping. Participants are encouraged to present their looper, discussing it's pros, cons and sharing interesting ideas on how they are using this powerful and super-hip tool-toy.

In one corner, we'll have myself representing the original and Mother-of-all-Loopers, the Oberheim Echoplex Digital Pro Plus. I'll also have on hand a much simpler unit, the Nano Looper 360 by Electro-Harmonix.

In the other corner, Mr. Hugh Neilson will represent his weapon of choice, the Boss RC-3.

Looping is no new technology, and yet lately it has gained huge popularity as a 
fun - and highly effective - practice tool. And that's just where it begins! The 
only limits are the limits of our creativity.
